Happy Kids Clinic

OIC Cambodia’s need for direct therapy experience and a desire to increase Cambodian awareness and understanding of speech therapy, saw OIC launch a for-profit social enterprise clinic ‘Happy Kids Clinic’ (HKC) in 2016. HKC provides speech and occupational therapy services to fee-paying clients in Phnom Penh. Using trained foreign therapists and local therapy assistants, the clinic has helped OIC trial models of speech therapy service, train local staff, undertake research and create speech therapy tools. 100% of the profits of HKC are given to OIC. Excitingly, there have been advocacy activities spin off from this such as a parent-led ‘late talker network’ and facebook page, as well as a growing connection between families of children with autism and their children’s schools.

Cambodian Speech Therapy Network

One exciting development in the Cambodian speech therapy scene has been the establishment of the Cambodian Speech Therapy Network in 2017 (Co-founded by OIC Cambodia and Speech Therapy Cambodia). This network is a forum for sharing knowledge, resources, research and experience of speech therapists working in Cambodia. Hopefully this is used as a resource by speech therapists and organizations inside and outside Cambodia. In 2018, we cooperated for a presentation on Speech Therapy at the National rehabilitation conference. We hope in the future this group includes key Cambodians currently practicing aspects of speech therapy. The network meets every 2-3 months in Phnom Penh.
